Register for the Private View: Blending bold colour, tactile language, and a rebellious pop art spirit, Clarke Reynolds is revolutionizing how we experience art. As the UK’s leading Braille artist, he transforms accessibility into aesthetic, turning words into patterns, language into texture, and sight loss into a powerful new way of seeing
From March 7th, The Box Gallery is proud to present MR. Dot, launched with Mr Dot Day. A landmark exhibition showcasing a curated selection of Mr.Dot's (Clarke Reynolds) past and present works from the last two years. This is a significant moment—not only is it Clarke’s first exhibition in his home city of Portsmouth with a contemporary commercial gallery, but it also marks a new chapter after his hugely successful tenure with Quantas Gallery in London. Having exhibited and sold out multiple shows in the capital over two years, Clarke is now bringing his dynamic, tactile, and thought-provoking Braille-based work back to where his journey began.
"MR. Dot" is a vibrant, immersive, and interactive exploration of Clarke’s evolving practice. The exhibition features key pieces from his earlier collections alongside brand-new, never-before-seen works that push his Braille art into exciting new territories. His signature bold, pop-art inspired dots—each a gateway to hidden messages—take center stage once again, but this time with a renewed sense of experimentation, storytelling, and conceptual depth.
The Box Gallery has had the privilege of calling Clarke a patron, friend, and supporter since our opening in March 2024, and we are thrilled to now represent him. This exhibition is not just a showcase of work; it is a homecoming, a statement of intent, and the beginning of an exciting partnership between Clarke and our gallery.
Clarke’s work is designed to bridge the gap between the sighted and visually impaired worlds. Using his unique 26-colour Braille alphabet system, Clarke transforms words into vibrant patterns that can be deciphered through colour, touch, or both. Some pieces invite the viewer to decode secret messages, while others embrace pure abstraction, playing with colour, texture, and rhythm in a way that resonates beyond language.
We are proud to be working with Clarke on the direction of his next projects, furthering his vision of making art accessible and engaging for all. If you’d like to know more, arrange a private viewing, or discuss a commission, reach out via our website or Instagram.
"MR. Dot" is more than just an exhibition; it’s a movement, a celebration, and an invitation to rethink how we experience art. This is just the beginning—watch this space.
"I was born with limited sight in my right eye but that never stopped me doing what I love, which is being creative. Unfortunately due to kidney problems I had to leave school early, however I fought back and studied art at a higher level gaining a BA honour's degree in model making.
My art has changed a lot as my sight decreases, but one thing has always stayed the same – the use of dots in my work as I've always been a fan of pointillism. I always say to people that I see through a thousand dots now, and the dots mean something as I've discovered Braille. Words are vitally important to a visually impaired person as they describe what we see, and as Braille is a tactile language it helps people with low vision to read and communicate.
The ultimate aim of my art is to highlight the importance of Braille to visually impaired people, and therefore to society in general."
