Colombian-Canadian contemporary- abstract and self taught visual artist, recognized world wide for his unique style. With indigenous and Farmer roots from Riosucio – Caldas, Colombia and more than 11 years of artistic trajectory developed in Canada Delgado has shown his determination and talent. He has traveled on tour around the world throughout the years having artist residencies, group and solo shows; as well as his remarkable live performances, which have given the opportunity to Delgado and his public to experience a special and strong connection with the paintings and the creation process… when the magic happens!
At the end of 2022, he decided to move his studio to Colombia, creating ACD Gallery & Studio . Having his hometown as a base; he continues creating and giving back to the community through different social and cultural projects. In addition to this, he created in 2019 a beautiful space that functions as a gallery and cafe called L’amour, leaving a legacy to his community of his talent and knowledge.
Carlos has been a winner of several art awards by Toronto Arts Foundation, Toronto Arts Council and Canada Arts Council, as well as former artist in residence at Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto. His work has been shown in group and solo shows in Canada, Colombia, Sweden, France, Spain, Norway and Russia. Also, he has been collected by private collectors in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.
Carlos Delgado
I am fascinated by the way human beings express themselves and relate to one another within our modern systems. The environment that I am, including all of the cultural and social aspects, are the influences and the subjects of my work. Within these systems I try to find the human elements, those subtle expressions of our emotions, experiences and stories which make us unique, and at the same time connect us to one another.
My creations are instantaneous translations of the wide array of emotions around me. For instance, the way someone looks in a particular direction, or the way they avoid eye contact in a public space. All of these are masks that we wear in public, masks which even though they may try, do not hide the complexity of our emotional human self.
We at The Box Gallery have been fans of Carlos's work for a long time, way before we had even planned to open the gallery. We reached our to him about some of his amazing pieces and started talking in 2023. We at The Box also have many connections, and a great love of the beautiful city that is Toronto, and discovered we had fiends in common in the city... it seemed meant to be...
