Following an accomplished career in television, Suzie Edwards studied life sculpture at Hampstead School of Art and then Morley College for twelve years.
Emerging sculptor Suzie has a studio in London, has organised her own exhibitions with other London-based artists such as Christina Ingwersen, and has had pieces selected by juried exhibitions.
Figurative pieces
If you haven’t experienced Suzie Edwards’ work before, you’re in for a real treat. Suzie is a skilled portrait sculptor, who observes anatomy and human movement to inform her figurative work. She works primarily in clay and wax, having her work cast in bronze using the lost wax method. She also casts in Jesmonite, resin and plaster.
The sculptures that we’re proud to bring to The Box Gallery, include pieces such ‘Despair’, ‘Enough’, and ‘Yearning’ which have been lovingly cast in bronze. Her bronzes reflect an unprecedented time of anguish for so many people around the world between 2020 and 2022.
‘Despair’ was picked as one of 5 runners-up at the Doncaster Art Fair, for which there were 600 submissions from more than 25 countries, for their well-received ‘Art as a response to mental health" exhibition. Whilst ‘Enough’ was selected for the Bath Society of Artists 2022 Annual Exhibition (Bath Society of Artists 117th Annual Exhibition).
Suzie’s series of ‘Pear Ladies’ have been sculpted from ceramic (clay). Whilst still in Suzie’s unique style, and like her bronzes, conveying a profound sense of humanness, the ‘Pear Ladies’ deliver a greater sense of calm, stability, knowledge, and sometimes of dreamy wonder. Available at The Box Gallery now.
